Hi, I’m Marie McKay and what I love to do is make quilts and help other people make quilts. I make 100 % cotton quilts in all sizes and for all ages. Some of them are made from patterns made by other designers, some are modified patterns, and some I have designed.
I first learned to quilt by hand. By that, I mean hand piecing and hand quilting. That was in the 1980s and I quickly learned that if I wanted to complete more quilts, I would have to do more by machine. Since that time I have taken many classes at local quilt shops to perfect my piecing techniques and to learn about quilting my quilts.
I like to take classes where I will learn a new piecing technique or how to use a new tool that will make my quilt top construction easier and more precise. One of my favorite quilts and what I consider to be my masterpiece is a quilt named Memories of Scotland by Jeff's Mom's Quilts. I used to include the link for this pattern, but their website is no longer active. In this quilt, I learned wool appliqué, English paper piecing, oversized piecing methods for making Lemoyne Stars, and the coping strips so all those borders would actually fit perfectly.
Through my website, blog, and other social media I want to share what I am working on and hope that you will share, too.
